The legendary Don Weller recently appeared at The Green Dragon in Croydon. Don has been playing on the Croydon Jazz Scene since the 1970's when his great band "Major Surgery" featured regularly at The Gun Tavern and the Dog and Bull. He is one of the UK's great jazz musicians and noted for his original compositions, and arrangements. He has since then composed for all the regular quartets with which he has worked and has built up a large catalogue of works some of which have been recorded by other artists. He has worked on film scores such as "Absolute Beginners" and "Stormy Monday" in which he was involved both as a player and composer. The Don Weller Big Band which has toured nationally is another of his many achievements. |
